Twenty class 21 locos out of the fifty-eight built were rebuilt by BR Glasgow in 1965 and re-classified as class 29. The rebuilt locos were fitted with a Paxman engine in place of the NBL/MAN unit which had proved very unreliable. The main external difference was the two tone green livery and the four figure headcode panel that appeared on the rebuilds. The first picture here shows a line of these locos at the end of their life in Scotland. The other two pictures show examples of class 29 rebuilds.
